Were You Given A Prescription Or A Bandaid?

You walk into a doctor’s office with an ailment, spend some time going over your symptoms, maybe even have a few tests run, and then walk out carrying a piece of paper to hand to a pharmacist. It is a pretty common practice and has really come to be the norm in today’s healthcare system. When we go to a hospital or clinic, we can almost expect to be leaving with a prescription. Surely, none of us want to spend our days stuck in misery on the couch or living with symptoms that a pill could take away. So why not just keep doing what we are doing and getting prescriptions to fill?

Though a prescription might make you feel better, is it really addressing the root cause of your ailment? Or is it just a way to cover up your symptoms and push the illness even deeper into your body? Has your doctor spent enough time with you to adequately address the cause of your illness and explain what that prescription is intended to do? Have they mentioned the likely long list of possible side effects? If you have to hesitate before answering any of these questions, it might be time to take a good long look at that pill bottle.

The truth is that both pharmaceutical drugs and herbal remedies can be used like a band-aid to simply cover up signs of illnesses without doing anything to fix it. If you have been given a prescription or an alternative remedy that you are supposed to take indefinitely, know that you have been given a band-aid. When given the right tools and proper nourishment, the body will work to heal both the cause and the symptoms. Once the cause is addressed, the disease can go away without the need for pills. That is true health.

Unfortunately, treating the symptoms has been commonplace because it is significantly easier than spending the time to find and treat the real cause. However, when we focus on just the signs of an illness, the illness itself continues to grow and cause even more damage inside of our bodies. The symptom was just our body’s way of telling us that something was wrong. When we cover up or ignore that signal for too long, the body will start giving us stronger signals through increasingly more painful and more difficult symptoms. The more pills we take to cover up those symptoms, the further we drive the illness into our bodies and the more we let it grow. Listen to your body. The treatment protocol you follow should listen too.

Now I know that there illnesses that are considered lifelong conditions that require medication. However, I also know that for those who are willing to put in the work and make drastic changes, many of those diseases don’t have to be as devastating, require as much medication, and just might go into remission or disappear altogether. Yes, it takes time and effort. Yes, it might not be easy. However, it is possible. The body was designed for health and can do amazing things when given the right environment.

If you are ready to make changes, start asking the important questions the next time your doctor hands you a prescription. How is this addressing the cause of my illness? How long am I supposed to take this for? What are the side effects? If you don’t like any of the answers, consider getting a second or even third opinion. If you are ready to see how herbal remedies can help address the cause of illness in your life, consider booking an herbal consultation.
